The Syrian government launched a chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun that resulted in the death of over 80 people, including many children. Of course they deny doing it. In response, the US government launch 59 missiles at an airbase in Syria. Russia, Iran and Syria have lost their minds over this, claiming that it was an independent group that launched the chemical attack, so Syria shouldn't be subject to any form of repercussions. Russia is prepared to retaliate. There has been a break in communication between the parties.
In a separate incident, the US dropped the 'Mother of all Bombs' on ISIS, killing 36 militants and zero civilians. 8000 US soldiers are helping train Afghan soldiers and work together in the fight against the Taliban. Afghani officials approved of the air strike, stating more attacks should be carried out.
So where does this leave us? Where is all this going? In my opinion, Trump wants a war. War means money and we know the president wants that. What about Canada. Our poor military is so poorly taken care of by our government. We ride the coat tails of the Americans, on the assumption that we'll fall under their protection. If the 'enemy' does decide to retaliate, where do we place in a situation like that? Will our army bases be bombed? Will the garrison just outside of Edmonton, and Cold Lake, and Wainwright be hit? These questions, of course, have no easy answer, if there's an answer at all. As with everything, it's a wait and see situation. I do anticipate the US sending more bombs and missiles, but at what price?
On a brighter note, Ariya and Hendrix are coming to stay with us tomorrow, during the day and for a sleepover! I'm so excited. Hendrix is finally toddling all over and is such a little Bean. He's so interested in toys and playing now - as well as trying to escape from the toy area and go up the stairs. I forgot how much work a little toddler is. He certainly keeps us on our toes. Ariya is such a big girl - she loves playing - princess and preparing food for us (toy food lol) are a couple of her favourite activities. They both LOVE tv and movies, and we'll have them on in the background while play time is happening. Ariya is amazing on her little tablet. I think she's better on the internet than me! She went through a stage where she would watch youtube videos about people opening and building kinder surprise eggs. She'd watch as much as she could before Mommy put the tablet up. There are no electronics at Granny and Pōpa's house, minus the TV, just straight playing with toys. It's funny to watch her with her cell phone, sans battery, talking to various people and putting it back in its case when she's through. Hendrix's current favourite toy is a little work bench. It was a drill press and a circular saw and various screws and bolts to bang on. Of course they all make noise. It's not annoying, thankfully, and he's figured out, pretty quickly, what to do with it and how everything functions. To sum it up, this grandparent thing is so amazing. We get so much joy out of them and love when they visit and come to stay.
Darrin is busy working different amounts of days; he's away anywhere from 14 to 24 days and home between 4 and 7 days. He's home right now, currently fixing the snow blower, likely for another week due to the fact they don't know where they're going to send him for the next job. Wherever it is, it should be a 14/7 schedule, which would be really nice for the summer as we will be able to go camping more often.
The pets are all doing well. Jax passed his obedience and is amazing at learning. We're working on him staying on his bed when people come as opposed to running to the door to greet them. It's a tough one but we'll get it down pat soon. Jax is on a kibble and raw food diet, and he eats raw, frozen bones. That has led to Joni and Ellie also getting little bones. Well, Joni has chubbied up a little bit - actually, noticeably - so she's on a diet. Less kibble on bone days. I'm considering feeding a bone for their breakfast or supper, as them getting the bone is like a meal in the middle of the day. We'll see how it works out. Ellie seems to have settled down with her barking since we got Jax, although the two of them feed off each other when someone goes past the house. She's such a friendly little dog though, it's hard to stay mad with her when she does go barking crazy.
I've been missing Lucy a lot lately. I'm not sure why. My sadness comes and goes and there's no rhyme or reason to it. Right now her picture is on my desktop and I smile when I look at her beautiful little face with one ear flopped over. It's easier than it was at the start and I have more good memories than sad, which helps.
The Oilers are in the playoffs for the first time in 10 years!! We're playing San Jose in the first round. We lost in OT the first game but I believe they've learned where their mistakes and weaknesses were and will turn it around in game 2 tonight. I'm confident they'll take the series - I'm thinking it will go to game six. Time will tell.
That's about all for now. Hoppy Easter to all my Christian friends and family. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
