2018! In July it will be 29 years that I've been a mom! How did that happen? And a Granny since 2014! It's amazing. I'm so thankful for being both. It is such an honour and truly a privilege to be both.
Today I remember my Mom and all the 'Moms' I had throughout the years. My Mom was a great mom. Her love lives on into our children: Dreytan has her care and concern for others, Kiershyn is a little mama bird taking care of us, and Braunt has her sense of humour. Nana and Deb were my first surrogate moms. I stayed with Nana each summer from the time I was 4 until I was 13. It helped my Mom with summer babysitting costs - which as a single mom, she didn't have much extra. I spent a lot of time with Deb and Rocky in the summer, and a little time with Lori and Les - definitely not as much. Lori was a bit of a spoiled lady - until she had her kids and then reality set it.
Now I'm Mom to a few and Twyla to many. It's funny how 'kids' nowadays don't necessarily call their in-laws mom and dad. Tyler will call me Mom once in a while, but Joanna and Breanna call us by our first names. It's really neither here nor there; it matters not to Darrin and I. The ones that matter to us are Pōpa and Granny.
Last week I took the dogs for their vaccinations. Jax didn't have his prong collar on, and I wasn't paying attention as we left to see that there was a dog right outside the door. Jax bolted after the dog - the owner thought Jax was eating the dog but he wasn't. The leash was wrapped around my middle finger and as Jax went, I looked down and saw that my middle finger was at a 90 degree angle and the skin had split and blood was pouring out! I finally got Jax into the car and went back to pay and get the girls - constantly saying 'I broke or dislocated my finger' ... I said it over and over and over. I was in quite the state of shock. Somehow I got home (don't remember driving), got the dogs in the house and tended to my finger. It appeared that it had gone back into place - I vaguely remember grabbing it and twisting it back - so I stopped the bleeding, put 3 steri-strips on it, a bandage and some gauze padding - and away I went. Well, things did not go so easily. The bleeding started again, everything fell off and I was in atrocious pain. Back to the bathroom to stop the bleeding (didn't stop for 20 minutes), re-apply steri-strips, bandage, gauze. It stayed on until that night when I decided to change the dressing and clean it, then re-apply. Well, it had bled again and opened again (after 4 hours, no point in stitches), so I slapped a bandage on it and hoped for the best. Today? I've got 3 lumps, so I'm not sure it went back into place properly, and it's twisting the opposite direction to what it should. Ah, the joys. So our 132 lb German Shedder can do a LOT of damage. Time to continue our training and work on that pulling.
This coming week, the truck is going to see Riley to get a recharge on the A/C. Then Carrie and Kennedy are coming to walk the girls, although the past two times, Carrie's taken Jax as well. Tuesday is Mikalya's birthday. Wednesday I see Woodsie and we have to fast Joni after 11PM as she has her dental work on Thursday. Darrin also gets home on Wednesday, but is going to have to get himself to our house because my appointment is so late. Friday we're planning on camping, but are going to wait and see how Joni's doing.
My friend Laura lives in France. She's married with 5 kids - a very busy lady. I offered her to read my blog, and started her off with my letters to Mom. I then started reading them and cannot believe all we went through. She was wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend to so many, and when she got sick it all just went downhill. Over the years, I've forgotten some things, most of it unimportant and inconsequential. In hindsight, none of it really mattered, but at the time EVERYTHING mattered. I was such a busy mom and daughter - there was so much I learned. The nurses were so good at teaching. I came away from that experience feeling like I could be a neurosurgeon. It was one of the hardest things I think I'll ever do in my life.
The news. Suicide bombers, Paris 'terror' knife attack, village attack leaves 26 dead. If it isn't religious related then it's politically related. Multiple times a day we hear of attacks. While I think we take our safety a little too for granted, I am so thankful we live where we do. Our biggest woes have been flooding and now grass fires. Let's hope everything stays under control.
I am currently backing up my NEW computer that, for whatever reason, is running like it's in molasses. It was doing really well, acting like a new computer should, and then it went to shit! I'm not sure why, but it really bites it. So anyway, it's backing up and then I have to call Apple (for the 8th time) to get them to tell me how to wipe the computer and re-install the operating system. This sounds like it's going to be fun! Ya right!!! Better get at it!
Toodles!
