Making time for what matters

Today’s blog jumps around a bit - my brain is gone. Just a warning… Super big thank you to DBR’s Auntie and Uncle for the awesome birthday party they threw him last Saturday. DBR loved his gifts and he really enjoyed getting together with everyone. We really enjoyed watching all the little feet and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces. The males all had a hoot playing football and I’m sure I wasn’t the only wife running out to grab A5-35 and hot packs that evening! Our Dadums was “feeling the burn” the next day, that’s for sure. K&R put on a great party and K has been the most awesome Auntie since July 13 , 1989. I know she will forever hold a special place in our kidlets’ hearts. Thanks again! As my favourite speaker is wont to say, the family gathering “got me to thinking…” (Really missing your emails, by the way Kev!) When attending family gatherings, we are reminded of many things – good, bad and otherwise. It started with one niece teasing the other about her fat

Friends and Aquaintances (aka Nell's New Tazer)

Throughout our lives, we makes some acquaintances and friends. Sometimes it’s easy to tell the difference between the two; other times it is a little more hazy. When dadums and I went through our tattoo stage (okay, dadums may still be in it), we met Bear and Bonni . Absolutely incredible people! If you want an awesome tattoo or piercing, go no where else. Bonnie even does some snippin' in the back room. Believe none of the competitors’ – there are no exceptions to perfection. (Okay, maybe we’re a little biased.) Dadums' has had work by Bear, Sam (no longer there) and Chris , while KVS and I have had piercings from Bonni and Amanda . Below is a story I shared with Bear through email. I hope you enjoy it as much as he did. Nell’s New Tazer Last weekend I spied something at Larry's Pistol and Pawn that tickled my fancy. (Keep in mind that my "fancy" is easily tickled). I bought something really cool for Nell. The occasion was our 5th wedding anniversary a

It's not MY fault!

I think DBR had a good birthday. He had a few phone calls, a couple of cards, some presents and an awesome DQ ice cream cake. (As an aside, kind of sad that when I go to their website and click Canada, it still keeps the 'Locate a Store' default country as United States. Hmmm...) We were chatting a little later and he said, "You know, Mom, birthdays aren't as exciting when you get older. It's just another day." Yes, son, each day is really only what we make it. With everything around him, DBR chose to have a good day and that’s awesome! (Saturday is coming soon…more news to follow on that.) I know my kids are getting tired of hearing about choices, but I'm going to rant for a bit. (Check out Bear's Rants .) We really do choose what kind of day we're going to have. There are a lot of circumstances that will come up throughout the day that may affect your choices, but it is still a choice. Lost your job? You can choose to sit at home or

Happy Birthday DBR!

Welcome to the world our beautiful baby boy - that is what we were saying 16 years ago this morning! DBR made his arrival a little after 5 in the morning, weighing in at 6lbs and measuring 18 1/2" long. He was a gorgeous, tiny baby although he was in the NICU for 5 days due to hypoglycemia from a prolonged labour and delivery. All ended up well and he's grown to 5"8 and 160 lbs so far, so something we're doing must be working. Happy Sweet 16 Son! We love you more than all the love in the world! Momums, Dadums, KVS, BDJ and pets xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Good morning Lucy Lew

The morning started early or the evening ended late ... such is the life with a baby and/or teens in the house. Maybe I do understand the whole having a baby when your kids are teens thing. Actually, a few days ago DBR said dadums and I should have another baby which he thought would be funny because he could spoil it and around the time it was getting rotten, he would be headed to university. (Seems to me there's a Northstars mom out there who's kind of in the same boat.) Oh ya, wouldn't that be a hoot. Umm... not! Have to talk techie for a minute here. Although I've cleaned up my computer with the ad-scan thinger that Shaw has (speaking of which, our computer has been WAY more f*cked up since we uninstalled our Norton and installed this Shaw thingee - not very impressed Shaw !) Anyway, the freakin' thing is slowing down so very much it's just incredible! I'm watching the words type out after I'm onto the six or seventh word (and it freezes up

Yet another step...

Hello again. This weekend passed in a blur and I've come through on the other side mostly unscathed (I took a chunk out of my pointer finger and don't know what I did). The elliptical is here - and gathering dust. I've decided not to go on it on the weekends. Why? Well, because I have so many other things to do like go looking at cars with my boys, shop, eat, puppies, ANYTHING but exercise. Actually, in the past I have chose to have my weekends off so this isn't anything new. However at 4:45 this morning, Miss Lucy (the new baby D is holding in the pic) didn't get me motivated to go on there this morning - instead we spent 20 minutes outside drinking coffee and playing in the grass. While it was a lot of fun, I didn't burn a lot of calories. An incredible lunch with 2 co-workers and a bunch of running around after work means I still haven't managed to get on the bloody thing and it's now been since Friday morning. Well, tomorrow morning is a n

Journey? Is that what this is???

How quickly our lives can change. Every single little choice in our lives brings about some sort of change. It's amazing. When I was a little girl and I handed C that piece of licorice with chocolate sauce on it (you really had to be there) that set me on a certain path. Then when I met D, that set me on another path. What if I had made one different choice? How could my life be different? One time not walking down a certain side of the street, one time doing absolutely anything ! So, we had a monumental thing happen in our family yesterday. Well, at least I think it's a monumental thing and D thinks it's a monumental thing and (did I mention I'm a mere 36 ... still just a baby in many long-living societies?) and wholly shiznit I am just not ready for this!!! What is the something that absolutely no parents think of when they're holding their brand new baby and getting to know him or her - the smell, the touch, all about that precious little life you're

All journeys begin with one step...

I'm back and feeling good! I hope you're all well too. Our lives are busy as usual, with the dadums being on nights and KVS at K&S' house, DBR working daily and BDJ helping out around the house - there is always something on the go! Britt got her hair over her eyes clipped and Gatorman got his mats removed from his back. So far Raffi's (sp?) been safe - he's a short hair. I haven't figured out how to post pictures yet, so I'm sorry I can't put them up. Now onto the topic at hand: getting healthy. Many of you know me in different shapes - although 'pear' seems to be the most common! :-) Anywho, I have been everywhere on the size/weight map from a 24-26 all the way down to a 10 (twice - for about 2 days each time LOL). Currently I'm an 18, after a HUGE spike in weight last April through August. So, what's up? Well, I'm very good at maintaining a heavy weight and so far no one has come out with a diet that includes no exe

Well, I'm not very good at keeping this thing up to date am I? Some past things to note: * Happy Birthday Nana! * Congrats to K and M on their new boy, Austin! * Sorry to G that I had to miss the baby shower for Liam. Hope you all had a great time! I have had great intentions of keeping this up to date, but then again I've had a lot of good intentions. Unfortunately, work, home, families and activities all bring up their own time constraints (not to mention kids being on the computer) so it's been difficult to get back on here. With any luck I will be able to schedule some time on here a bit more regularly, however that remains to be seen doesn't it? Toodles for now! T
