If you're reading this it means you made it through another year! It means that something you've been doing is right. It means you have something to do today - it's just a matter of figuring out what that is. So, what are you going to do?
What do I want to do this year? A couple of posts ago I listed the top 10 things that people want to do. Let's see where I fit in with those ...
1) Spend More Time with Family & Friends
3) Tame the Bulge - This one will naturally follow #2 if I start that. To quote Robert Burns "The best laid schemes of mice and men / Gang aft a-gley."
4) Quit Smoking - 4 years in February for cigarettes!
5) Enjoy Life More - I think I'm enjoying life quite a bit. There is a lot of shit that happens, but I notice that happens for everyone. Work, eat, sleep, drink, be merry ... I think I'm doing pretty good on this one.
6) Quit Drinking - I had two alcoholic beverages in 2005, although they were doubles so I guess that counts as four! I really should cut back though, as I think it's starting to affect my work. LOL
7) Get Out of Debt - This is another one I would love to tackle, but I don't foresee it happening this year. Dadums and I are both struggling to keep our heads above water - and I don't anticipate this rectifying itself until we can sell the house and completely sever finances. He is a bit worse off because of what he chooses to drive, but that's his choice and he pays for it every month.
8) Learn Something New - We should always be learning something new. I would like to try a bunch of things, some I can and will, others I can't or won't, but again this really depends on a lot of other factors. Raising kids and maintaining a home and vehicle takes a lot of my resources, so there isn't always a lot of time or left for the Momums to do things she would like to. That's okay though, my time will come once we get these kidlets grown and learned and on their own! :-)
9) Help Others
That brings us to the end of this morning's blog. KVS is finally getting her butt out of bed, DBR already called to wish me HNY, BDJ hasn't checked in yet and Dadums made his obligatory 9:00-9:30 AM phone call (just because he's been up since 6 AM doesn't mean everyone wants to be up that early!). May write tonight, but should really spend some time getting my work that I brought home done.
Toodles for now!
What do I want to do this year? A couple of posts ago I listed the top 10 things that people want to do. Let's see where I fit in with those ...
1) Spend More Time with Family & Friends
- There are a lot of friends I didn't get to see this year. Is that something I can rectify in '06? Well, things are very busy with my own family and happenings and my friends are busy with their families and happenings, so I don't think it is anything done intentionally. Pretty soon the year has flown by and we haven't seen each other except to read the jokes we email around and maybe a we bit of each other's blogs. I think when all of our kids are grown, then we'll have more time to visit and see each other.
- As for the family, hmm. I think my views of family are different than other peoples in that I don't have a lot of contact with any family. Having been moved away from family when I was little and being an only child, my perspective of family was whoever our friends were at the time, and then my step-dad's family. I had unofficial aunties and uncles all around, and I got to see my mom's family in the summers, but it is still different.
- Being married to Dadums opened a different view of family to me. He has a huge family on his father's side and a not bad sized family on his mom's side - so right there that was weird. Two of his three siblings are quite involved with each other and the folks, but the other brother is more with the wife's family - which is normal in the scheme of life. Not to mention there are issues with everyone's families that you don't really know until you get behind closed doors, and some of the in-laws just really don't see eye to eye with each other. Ce la vie. Live and let live.
- Anyway, now that Dadums is on his own and moving on with his life (fix the spelling in your ad!) my perspective has again changed. Kids will be leaving home in the next few years, or moving on with their education and staying at home. We should be able to sell the house in a couple years and each buy a condo - so I have to get myself in a position where I'll be able to do that. Whether I have a lot to do with my kids or a little remains to be seen. If they're around here then I'm sure I'll see them often, however if they choose to move away as we did then I won't see them as often. There's always email and phone, though, so I'm not really concerned.
3) Tame the Bulge - This one will naturally follow #2 if I start that. To quote Robert Burns "The best laid schemes of mice and men / Gang aft a-gley."
4) Quit Smoking - 4 years in February for cigarettes!

9) Help Others
- I spend my life helping others. Whether it be at home or at work, there is always someone who needs something. There are babies who needed to be fed and nurtured and taught, there are bosses who need help to get something off to someone or a letter typed or some meeting setup, there are teens who challenge every word from my mouth but who also still need guidance and love and consistency. These all focus on customer service in some form, and I think I'm good at it. Even being a partner to someone is a form of customer service.
- I think I can definitely use #8 and #5 to improve myself both personally and professionally.
- I think my kids are teaching me so much right now and I don't know if they even realize it. DBR is amazing in his dedication to his fitness. KVS has really focused on herself and is enjoying her friends and activities; I hope she'll put a wee bit more effort into academics. BDJ goes through girls quicker than I go through socks, but he seems to be a happy, well-adjusted boy who I'm sure will have grown 1/2" by the time he gets back home this week. They seem to have their heads screwed on straight, so I guess Dadums and I have done okay so far.
Although you'll find our house a mess,
Come in, sit down, converse.
It doesn't always look like this:
Some days it's even worse.
